A tragic incident has shaken the Rohingya community in Cox's Bazar after a young child who had reportedly gone missing was later found dead.

According to community sources, Alham, a 5-year-old Rohingya child from Camp 09 in the Balukhali Refugee Camp, Cox's Bazar, was reported missing after leaving his home to play. Alham was the son of Tabarek Hussain, also known as Muktar Kerani.

Family members and neighbours stated that ransom demands were allegedly made following the child's disappearance. Community sources reported that payments totaling approximately 380,000 Bangladeshi Taka were provided in an effort to secure the child's safe release. Despite these efforts, the child was not returned to his family.

After ten days of uncertainty and distress for the family, Alham's body was reportedly recovered near the Custom Road area along the Bangladesh–Myanmar border route.

The victim's father and neighbours have alleged that Mohammad Anos, son of Kamal from Dum Bai Village, Arakan, was involved in the kidnapping incident.

The case has generated deep shock, grief, and concern throughout the Rohingya community. Many community members have expressed fears about the growing risks of kidnapping and violence affecting children and families living in the refugee camps.

Community members are calling upon the Government of Bangladesh, relevant law enforcement agencies, and camp authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident, take appropriate legal action, and ensure accountability for those responsible.

The Rohingya community stands in solidarity with Alham's family during this painful time and continues to call for justice for the victim, accountability for the perpetrators, and stronger protection measures to safeguard children and prevent future incidents of kidnapping and violence within the Rohingya refugee camps in Bangladesh.
