June, 9, 2026A Rohingya refugee has been killed in a landmine explosion along the Bangladesh–Myanmar border area.
Abdul Khalek (30), a resident of Kutupalong Camp-1 in Cox’s Bazar, lost his life after a landmine detonated near the Reju Amtali border area of Naikhongchhari in Bandarban.
According to Dhaka Tribune, he was critically injured when the explosion occurred near Border Pillar 40. The blast caused severe trauma, including the loss of his left leg. He was quickly taken to a hospital for treatment, but he later died from his injuries.
The incident once again underscores the persistent risks faced by Rohingya refugees in border areas, where landmines and insecurity continue to threaten civilian lives.
We call for justice for Abdul Khalek. We urge the international community, humanitarian organizations, and all relevant stakeholders to take immediate action to ensure accountability, protect the Rohingya community, and prevent further loss of innocent lives.
